According to Bild, the players in the German national team feel that Julian Nagelsmann is still more of a club manager than a national team manager.
The players are currently of the belief that Nagelsmann is trying to implement his football ideas too much which is something that is not possible when managing a national team due to spending so little time with the players.
It is believed that Nagelsmann should become more pragmatic and reduce the amount of training content, video analysis as well as his general ideas. While the former Bayern Munich coach’s view of the team’s lack of defending has also not been well received.
Players are also unsure about Nagelsmann asking players to play out of position with the main example being Kai Havertz playing at left-back against Turkey, these ideas are being implemented with very few training sessions and some players are not happy about this. However, the fact that Nagelsmann stuck with Havertz at left-back against Austria gained a positive reaction from the team. This was a similar approach that Nagelsmann’s predecessor Hansi Flick took before his sacking in September.
Overall, the relationship between Nagelsmann and the players is still strong and there is no doubt in his tactical knowledge but he is currently asking for too much from the players with so little time ahead of Euro 2024.
