FC Köln will receive a six-figure bonus should Borussia Dortmund win the Bundesliga. According to regional outlet Express.de, this comes after Anthony Modeste joined Die Schwarzgelben in the summer.
In the sale of Modeste to Dortmund for around €5m, Köln inserted a clause that would see the club earn a six-figure fee should BVB go on to win the Meisterschale.
Borussia Dortmund lead the Bundesliga by two points and need a win against Mainz on Saturday to secure their first league title since 2012. It also gives FC Köln a financial incentive against Bayern Munich to avoid defeat against the Rekordmeister.
Modeste joined Borussia Dortmund following the news of Sébastien Haller’s cancer diagnosis last summer but despite scoring 20 Bundesliga goals last season for Köln, the Frenchman was unable to replicate his form with just two goals in 18 league games this season.
Modeste wasn’t the only player to switch from Köln to Dortmund last summer. Salih Özcan (25) joined BVB after they activated the player’s reported €6m exit clause, and so Köln were unable to negotiate any further clauses.
