Exequiel Palacios to extend Bayer Leverkusen contract

Kicker reports that Exequiel Palacios is set to extend his Bayer Leverkusen contract. The 24-year-old’s current contract expires in 2025.

The topic has already been discussed internally at Leverkusen and it is looking more likely the Argentine will sign an extension soon. The central-midfielder is currently valued at €15m by Transfermarkt and had attracted interest from Italy after winning the World Cup.

Under Gerardo Seoane, Palacios was inconsistent and injuries also hampered his time in the team but under Xabi Alonso, he has found a more consistent side to his game. During Argentina’s World Cup triumph, Palacios made three brief cameos against Mexico, Australia and Croatia in Qatar.

The 24-year-old joined Leverkusen from River Plate in 2020 for €17m. This season he has played 21 times for Leverkusen, scoring two and assisting one as Leverkusen currently find themselves 11th in the Bundesliga.

Bayer Leverkusen host Hertha Berlin on Sunday afternoon.
