Sport1 reports that Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in Tigre’s Mateo Retegui but any type of transfer could only happen with European qualification.
Frankfurt currently sees any move for the 23-year-old as too expensive and could only move for the Italian if they qualify for any of the three European competitions. Frankfurt are currently sixth in the Bundesliga but the three teams behind are only separated by two points due to Frankfurt’s poor run of form recently.
Sky Germany also reports that sporting director Markus Krösche is pushing to sign Retegui but are struggling due to the price of €15m, Frankfurt are also facing competition from Inter Milan.
Retegui is currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Juniors. His contract there expires in 2024.
This season, Retegui has played nine times for Tigres scoring seven with his form earning him a call-up to the Italian national team where he scored on his debut against England before then scoring again in his second game against Malta.
Frankfurt may need backup options for their striking position in the summer as Lucas Alario is set to leave in the summer and Rafael Santos Borré has become unhappy with his lack of playing time.
