According to SportBild, Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez is set to join Borussia Dortmund and could cost up to €35m.
It has been previously reported that Álvarez has agreed to personal terms with Dortmund as he is said to be fond of the environment at the club.
The only permutation for the transfer however is that Dortmund can only offer Ajax the money once Jude Bellingham has been sold to Real Madrid. This means if another team is able to reach an agreement with Álvarez and then Ajax, Dortmund would lose their man.
The Mexican’s current contract at Ajax expires in 2025 and he is valued at €35m by transfermarkt. Last season, the 25-year-old played 44 times for Ajax as they finished the season trophyless. Álvarez is also versatile and is able to not only play in midfield but also as a centre-back.
Once the Álvarez deal has been completed, Dortmund will then turn their attentions to a new right-back as well as a ‘midfield strategist’.
