Christopher Nkunku out for at least two weeks with a thigh injury

RB Leipzig have announced that Christopher Nkunku suffered a thigh injury in their 2-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund on Friday.

The 25-year-old made his first start for Leipzig since November but went off in the 83rd minute. The injury means Nkunku is set to spend at least two weeks on the sidelines. It is likely that he will miss Leipzig’s crucial second leg against Manchester City in the Champions League.

The attacker proved to be lively for Leipzig in the first half against Dortmund causing problems for Dortmund’s defence but his rustiness in front of goal showed.

Nkunku had recently returned from a ligament injury suffered with France when preparing for the World Cup and may have been rushed back too soon as he only made his return against Wolfsburg.

Leipzig will also be without Xaver Schalger for the long term as he suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury and will undergo an operation in Munich on Monday.
