Chelsea interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah

Bild reports that Chelsea are looking to boost their defence options and are interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s centre-back Jonathan Tah.

Tah’s current contract at Leverkusen expires in 2025 and it is reported that he has a release clause in his contract but the value of it is currently unknown, Sky Germany has previously suggested that the release clause is valued at €18m.

It is suggested that the 27-year-old could be the successor of Thiago Silva who is 39 years old and is reaching the end of his career. In the past calendar year, Chelsea has significantly invested in their defence with the additions of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile from AS Monaco.

Since joining Leverkusen from Hamburg in 2015, Tah has been a stalwart of the Leverkusen defence. Under Xabi Alonso, he has furthered his development and earned a recall to the German national team ahead of the Euros next summer.

In the summer, West Ham also showed an interest in Tah but nothing more than an enquiry of the central defender materialised.
