Champions League Preview | RB Leipzig vs Manchester City: Dominik Szoboszlai to shine once again?

RB Leipzig host Manchester City on Wednesday as they look to continue their good form under Marco Rose.

Leipzig go into the game following a comfortable 3-0 win against Wolfsburg. A first-half goal from Emil Forsberg and late goals from Konrad Laimer and Dominik Szoboszlai secured the win that means Leipzig are only four points off of the top three in the Bundesliga. The game away to Wolfsburg also saw the return of Christopher Nkunku from the bench.

City on the other hand threw away a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 with Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring just before half-time for City before in the 84th minute Chris Wood equalised for Forest and rescued a point for Forest.

Although Nkunku has returned to action for Leipzig he will likely start from the bench as he has only had 20 minutes of football this year.

The key man for Leipzig will likely be Szoboszlai. The Hungarian is the player to have greatly benefited from the arrival of Rose back in September. Since Rose has taken charge the 23-year-old has scored five times and assisted nine in all competitions. With the likes of Nkunku on the bench and Dani Olmo injured, the majority of the creative burden will be placed on Szoboszlai.

The main threat for Leipzig will be Erling Haaland, a player that all the Leipzig players and Rose are familiar with due to his time at Borussia Dortmund. Leipzig have one of the best defences in the Bundesliga and have shown that they can go toe-to-toe with the best in Europe as they beat Real Madrid 3-2 in the group stages.

Leipzig and City met in the group stages last year and saw both teams win a game. City won the first meeting 6-3 which saw Nkunku score a hat trick before Leipzig won the second meeting 2-1 with Szoboszlai and Andre Silva both on the score sheet.
