Bundesliga Predictions | Round 5

In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Manu’s Game of the Week: Bayern Munich vs Bochum

My game of the week is the Bayern vs Bochum fixture. There is history here as the two clubs have fostered a fan friendship that dates back to 1973. A group of Bayern fans were attacked by fans in the stadium during a Bundesliga game, and the fan club Bochumer Jungen intervened to protect the visitors. The two fan groups then went drinking together at the Gaststätte Beckporte. Bayern then thanked the Bochum fans in the return match by giving them a lab of honour around the old tartan track of the Olympiastadion. A fan friendship was born that has now lasted 30 years. Expect a big Bochum contingent at the Allianz Arena, especially as it is also Oktoberfest time in the Bavarian capital. On the field this should be straightforward as I think Bayern will win this easily.

Manu’s Predictions:

  • Stuttgart 3-1 Darmstadt
  • Bayern Munich 3-1 Bochum
  • Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Wolfsburg
  • Union Berlin 2-1 Hoffenheim
  • Borussia Monchengladbach 1-3 Leipzig
  • Augsburg 1-1 Mainz
  • Werder Bremen 1-1 Köln
  • Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 Heidenheim
  • Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 Freiburg

Stefan’s Game of the Week: Borussia Dortmund vs Wolfsburg

Unquestionably the best game of the weekend in terms of sheer star power, both Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg go into this game hoping to pick up all three points. Edin Terzic’s side are in a bit of a rut tactically and confidence seems to be at an all-time low, but Dortmund have somehow managed to avoid defeat thus far in the Bundesliga and will be hoping to get the better of Wolfsburg. Contrastingly, Wolfsburg have enjoyed a great start to the season and have shown no problems scoring goals. If they can walk away from the Westfalenstadion with all three points, it will surely be seen as a sign of their continued success under Niko Kovac and Dortmund’s continued demise under their own head coach.

Stefan’s Predictions:

  • Stuttgart 2-0 Darmstadt
  • Bayern Munich 3-1 Bochum
  • Borussia Dortmund 2-2 Wolfsburg
  • Union Berlin 1-2 Hoffenheim
  • Borussia Monchengladbach 0-2 RB Leipzig
  • Augsburg 1-1 Mainz
  • Werder Bremen 2-1 Köln
  • Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 Heidenheim
  • Eintracht Frankfurt 0-2 Freiburg

Scores after MD4: Manu – 27, Stefan – 37
