Borussia Dortmund’s potential opponents in Champions League Round of 16

Borussia Dortmund confirmed their place in the Champions League Round of 16 on matchday five but after a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain at the Westfalenstadion on Wednesday night, solidified their place as winners of the aptly named, “group of death.”

Karim Adeyemi gave Dortmund the lead in the 51st minute but that lasted just five minutes after PSG’s Warren Zaïre-Emery (17) became the youngest Frenchman to score in the Champions League, beating the previous record, set by Karim Benzema.

Had BVB lost against Luis Enrique’s side, they would have finished runners-up in Group F, which would have given them a tougher draw in the Round of 16. In the other fixture, Milan beat Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, meaning the Italian outfit have qualified for the Europa League.

Borussia Dortmund’s possible opponents

As group winners, Borussia Dortmund will be in the pot of eight seeded teams and will face a runner-up, while having the home advantage in the decisive second-leg. The Champions League draw takes place in Nyon, Switzerland, on Monday, December 18th (11:00 GMT).

Unable to play against PSG or RB Leipzig, Dortmund’s potential opponents are as follows:

  • Copenhagen
  • PSV
  • Napoli
  • Inter
  • Lazio
  • Porto
