Borussia Dortmund turned down chance to sign Granit Xhaka and Victor Boniface

According to Sport Bild, Borussia Dortmund have previously rejected the opportunities to sign now Bayer Leverkusen players Granit Xhaka and Victor Boniface.

Dortmund were offered Xhaka in the summer and the Swiss international was considered by the club, but ultimately the financial package for Xhaka was seen as too expensive, while Dortmund also believed that the 31-year-old had no resale value.

Instead, Dortmund opted to spend €30m on Felix Nmecha, who currently has yet to prove that he has been worth the money spent on him.

In the spring, Dortmund were also offered the chance to sign now Leverkusen striker Boniface. However, at the time Sebastien Haller was not struggling at the time so the club saw no need to sign an additional striker but once the 29-year-old returned from vacation it was clear that Dortmund needed an additional striker. The club would opt to sign Niclas Füllkrug later on in the transfer window.

The former Bremen striker has done okay in his opening games for the club scoring two goals, while Boniface is currently joint-third in the Bundesliga goal-scoring charts with seven.
