Borussia Dortmund close in on Niclas Füllkrug

Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit of a striker may finally be over with the club currently working on a deal to sign Werder Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug, last season’s joint top scorer in the Bundesliga.

According to Patrick Berger of Sport1, Füllkrug has already agreed a three-year contract with Dortmund that will tie the German forward to the club until 2026. Both clubs are now on the verge of finding an agreement worth around €15m.

This is further backed up by regional outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, who add that Füllkrug has already packed up his belongings at the Weserstadion and is on his way to Dortmund. Subject to the German passing a medical, the deal is expected to be announced shortly. RN further add that Füllkrug was offered a reported €6m salary, double what Bremen had offered him.

Füllkrug scored 16 and created five in 28 Bundesliga games last season, which also attracted interest from Bayern Munich as they pursued a No. 9 before the arrival of Harry Kane. Mergim Berisha was also an option for Dortmund, but the German yesterday completed his €15m move from Augsburg to Hoffenheim.
