Bayer Leverkusen reject €45m bid from Aston Villa for Moussa Diaby

Sky Germany reports that Bayer Leverkusen have rejected Aston Villa’s initial bid for winger Moussa Diaby.

The first bid that was rejected was reportedly worth in the region of €45m, Leverkusen rejected the first bid was they want closer to €60m. Talks between the two teams over a transfer fee will continue.

Diaby joined Leverkusen from PSG in 2019 for €15m, over the past two seasons, the 24-year-old has cemented himself as one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga. Despite Leverkusen’s poor start to last season, Diaby still finished with nine goals and nine assists in 33 Bundesliga games and formed a formidable partnership with Jeremie Frimpong on the right wing.

Villa have previously bought one of Diaby’s attacking partners in the past. Two seasons ago, Leon Bailey joined Villa from Die Werkself for €32m.

How the departure of Diaby will affect Leverkusen is unknown. Jonas Hofmann has already joined from Borussia Mönchengladbach for €10m but it is likely that Leverkusen will enter the market again for a winger that has a similar profile to Diaby.
