Augsburg to sign Renato Veiga from Sporting CP

As reported by Kicker, Renato Veiga is expected to join Augsburg on loan from Sporting CP for one-year, until January 2024. The Bundesliga side would also have a purchase option on the 19-year-old.

Veiga, a defensive-midfielder and captain of the Portugal U20 team, would become Augsburg’s seventh signing of the January transfer window. Yet to make his Sporting CP debut, the youngster has played 34 times for the B team and 13 times for the U19s.

With the likely departure of Carlos Gruezo to San Jose Earthquakes, Karlsruhe’s Tim Breithaupt (20) still remains an option for central-midfield but they’re unlikely to reach an agreement today, and so a summer transfer remains a possibility for this one.

Augsburg yesterday completed the signing of Nathanaël Mbuku, their sixth January signing after Dion Beljo, David Colina, Irvin Cardona, Arne Engels and Kelvin Yeboah.

Enrico Maaßen’s side have a difficult game against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend before a trip to Mainz and a home game against Hoffenheim.
