Alassane Pléa to replace Marcus Thuram as striker at Borussia Mönchengladbach

Bild are reporting that Alassane Pléa will be the player to replace Marcus Thuram as striker when the 25-year-old leaves the club in the summer.

Borussia Mönchengladbach are unable to buy a like-for-like replacement for Thuram due to the 25-year-old leaving on a free transfer in the summer, instead, they will look internally.

Bild are also reporting that Gladbach will look at buying a young striker who can then be Pléa’s understudy as they mature and learn the Bundesliga. When Pléa first joined Gladbach he was used as the number nine but the arrivals of Thuram and Breel Embolo had forced him out wide as a left winger.

The 29-year-old recently signed an extension until 2025 with an option of an additional year. Pléa originally joined Gladbach in 2018 from Nice for €23m.

In his first two seasons, he showed his goalscoring ability as a striker scoring 12 and 10 goals but more recently he has shown the playmaking side of his game as he currently has eight assists this season placing him third on the Bundesliga assist charts.
