According to Kicker, there is a 95% chance that Augsburg will activate the purchase option in their loan agreement with Mergim Berisha.
The 24-year-old is currently on loan from Fenerbahce in Turkey, and it is reported that the loan has a buy option of €4 million. Berisha is currently Augsburg’s top scorer with eight goals this season, while also providing four assists as well.
Berisha’s form this season has earned him his first ever call-up to the German national team where he will compete with the likes of Nicklas Füllkrug and Kai Havertz for the number nine position.
Augsburg are currently 12th in the Bundesliga seven points clear of the relegation places. At the weekend they threw away their 1-0 lead against Schalke to draw 1-1 with a 93rd-minute penalty from Marius Bülter.
What this means for Augsburg loanee Ricardo Pepi is unknown, as during his time in the Bundesliga he has struggled but on loan at Groningen in the Netherlands he has nine goals and three assists this season. When he returns to Germany in the summer he will likely have to compete for a starting spot with Berisha, Ermedin Demirovic and January signing Dion Beljo.
