Yann Sommer on the verge of leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach

As reported by Sport BildYann Sommer is on the verge of leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach. With Manchester United once again showing interest in the Swiss international as a replacement for David De Gea.

Sommer’s contract expires at the end of the season meaning he would be able to speak to clubs about his future as soon as January. Gladbach have not backed down when it comes to a contract extension with sporting director Roland Virkus saying: “We weigh everything carefully and are prepared in any case.”

If Sommer does leave Gladbach, they will not look for a replacement. Sport Bild has also reported that if this does happen they will use 24-year-old Jan Olschowsky who has been number one in games against Bochum and Borussia Dortmund this season.

The Swiss goalkeeper has been an integral part of Gladbach since he joined in 2014. His performances for die Fohlen have easily put him in the conversation as one of the best goalkeepers in the league with a highlight this season being his league-record 19 saves against Bayern Munich.

Sommer has not played for Gladbach since tearing an ankle ligament in their 2-1 loss to Darmstadt in October.
