Wout Weghorst a candidate for Eintracht Frankfurt

Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in signing Dutch forward Wout Weghorst from Burnley, according to Bild.

Oliver Glasner’s side were interested in signing Weghorst in January but were priced out of a move, with the 29-year-old joining then Premier League side Burnley for €14m.

Burnley’s relegation to the Championship now means that Weghorst will leave the club, with a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt an option.

This comes after deals for Bochum’s Sebastian Polter (31) and Bayer Leverkusen’s Lucas Alario (29) have stalled.

Weghorst is an alternative and will add further strength to the Eintracht squad as they compete in next season’s Champions League.

The former Wolfsburg forward scored two and created three in 20 Premier League games for Burnley last season, but was unable to prevent them from finishing 18th.

Weghorst has been one of the Bundesliga’s best strikers in recent years, scoring 59 and created 20 in 118 games for Wolfsburg.
