Werder Bremen enquire about Jean-Paul Boëtius

Speaking to Kicker, the agent of Jean-Paul Boëtius, Erkan Alkan, confirms that Werder Bremen are interested in signing the Dutchman on a free transfer.

“Several Bundesliga clubs are interested in him. One is Werder Bremen. They called and asked about him,” said Alkan.

Boëtius is available on a free transfer after his four-year spell at Mainz came to an end, both parties agreeing that they wouldn’t sign a contract extension beyond this summer.

The 28-year-old played 129 games in all competitions for Mainz since joining the club from Feyenoord in 2018, scoring 13 and created 23.

Boëtius has also attracted attention from Hertha Berlin after they secured their Bundesliga status in the relegation playoff against Hamburg. New Hertha head coach Sandro Schwarz knows the Dutch winger well after they worked together at Mainz.

Werder Bremen earned promotion back to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking after finishing second, two points behind 2. Bundesliga champions Schalke.
