Taiwo Awoniyi scored his 12th goal of the season in a 1-0 win over FC Köln last weekend and is now being watched by various Premier League sides such as Newcastle United, Southampton and West Ham, according to Sky Germany.
The 24-year-old Nigerian international is having an excellent season with Die Eisernen and has been linked with a €30m move to England, just one year after joining Union on a permanent deal.
When asked about the potential price tag for his forward, Union’s Sporting Director, Oliver Ruhnert said: “It’s a nice sum, you have to say that. For us, it would be a departure into a new dimension.”
Speaking to Kicker, Union coach Urs Fischer also commented by saying: “One of the other top performers has left us or will leave us in the future.”
Should Awoniyi leave Union this summer for such a sum, he would smash the club’s record transfer fee of €6.5m which is joint-held by Robert Andrich and Sebastian Andersson.
