Bundesliga side Union Berlin confirm that Timo Baumgartl will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing successful surgery to remove a tumour.
“During a routine examination, the Stuttgart-born defender discovered a tumour on his testicle. Timo underwent a successful operation to remove the tumour a few days later. Further preventative treatments will follow in the coming weeks,” posted the club’s official website.
Baumgartl, 26, added: “Fortunately, I have been going for preventive care for several years. I’m very grateful for the quick, clear diagnosis and for the surgery that has since gone well. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the incredible support from Charité, the team doctors and the club. I will never forget that. My focus now is on recovering as quickly as possible.”
