Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen are among several clubs seeking to sign Fortuna Düsseldorf defender Marcel Sobottka, according to Sky Germany.
The 28-year-old has been with Fortuna for seven years and is currently in talks about signing a new contract although nothing has been agreed upon as of yet.
Should Sobottka be tempted to look elsewhere, the defender is spoilt for choice. As well as Schalke and Bremen, Bundesliga sides such as Union Berlin and VfL Bochum have registered their interest.
However, if Schalke are to be promoted from the second division, it’s unlikely that they’ll pursue Sobottka. According to Sky, the Royal Blues are only interested in the defender should their promotion bid fail.
Despite this, other teams are still tempted to steal Sobottka away from Düsseldorf this summer.
