Ridle Baku happy at Wolfsburg despite exit talks

Speaking in an interview with Sport Bild, 24-year-old German defender Ridle Baku has responded to reports linking him with a move away from Wolfsburg.

“I never said I wanted to leave Wolfsburg,” said Baku. “I’m not concerned with a change at all. The focus now is on good preparation. I want to play consistently at my highest level. The goal is to be successful.”

Speaking in April, Baku said that he would be open to a move, but that doesn’t mean this summer.

The Germany international has three-years remaining on his current deal and firmly in the plans of new Wolfsburg head coach Niko Kovač, with the likelihood that Kevin Mbabu will leave the club this summer with interest from Fulham.

Baku has played 76 games in all competitions, scoring 11 and creating 13 for Wolfsburg since his €20m from Mainz in 2020.

As well as signing Bartol Franjić (22) and Kilian Fischer (21) to strengthen their defence, Wolfsburg are in discussions to sign Mattia Viti (20) from Italian side Empoli.
