On Saturday afternoon, Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach played out a 2-2 draw. Marcus Thuram opened the score for Die Fohlen before Yannick Gerhardt equalised just before half-time. Thuram would then score again just after half-time before Omar Marmoush equalised again for Wolfsburg.
Marcus Thuram should be considered for the World Cup
With his two goals for Gladbach, it takes Thuram’s total this season to seven goals in the Bundesliga. With this it puts him second on the goal scoring tally in the league whilst also making him the second top scoring Frenchman in Europe’s top five league behind Kylian Mbappé. Although he wasn’t called up for the recent internationals, with his performances he has made a claim to be called up by Didier Deschamps and can offer something different.
He has hit form at the right time for Gladbach under Daniel Farke after a rather underwhelming season last year, and with the World Cup on the horizon and his contract running down it means his stock will continue to rise.
Wolfsburg are finally hitting form
After a poor season last year under Mark van Bommel and Florian Kohfeldt, Wolfsburg turned to Nico Kovac to try and turn their fortunes around. However, they started the season terribly going winless in five games before beating Eintracht Frankfurt. After a loss to Union Berlin, Wolfsburg have beaten VfB Stuttgart and drawn against Augsburg and an inform Gladbach team.
After a long bedding in period, Kovac seems to have got the team playing and performing how he wants but they must now stay consistent and try and reach the potential that the squad has.
