RB Leipzig’s Péter Gulácsi suffers ACL tear

RB Leipzig confirm tonight that club captain Péter Gulácsi has suffered an ACL tear in his knee and is sidelined for the foreseeable. The 32-year-old went down holding his knee in the 10th minute and was stretchered off, replaced by Janis Blaswich.

“Péter Gulácsi suffered a serious knee injury in the 10th minute of our match against Celtic. Our captain sustained an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee and will be out for a lengthy period of time. Further examinations will follow in the coming days,” tweeted the club’s official account.

Leipzig picked up their first win in this season’s Champions League, beating Celtic 3-1 with Christopher Nkunku opening the scoring before an Andre Silva brace.

Speaking about Gulácsi’s injury after the game, Leipzig’s No. 2, Blaswich, wished Gulácsi “everything from the bottom of my heart.” Leipzig face Mainz on Saturday before flying to Glasgow to face Celtic.
