Rani Khedira confirms he’s in Germany’s provisional World Cup squad

Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira confirmed that he’s in Hansi Flick’s provisional Germany squad for the 2022 World Cup. A total of 55 players are in the squad, which has been submitted to FIFA.

“I was informed that I was on [Hansi] Flick’s list,” Khedira told Sky Germany after Union’s win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday afternoon. “Like the current table, it’s a bit surreal.”

Flick will announce his 26-man squad for the World Cup on November 10. Amongst the names alongside Khedira in the preliminary squad is Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund), Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen), Robin Koch (Leeds United) and Mario Götze (Eintracht Frankfurt).

There’s still question marks as to whether Manuel Neuer will participate at the World Cup. The 36-year-old wants to play two Bundesliga games prior to the tournament, against Werder Bremen and Schalke, as he works on recovering from a shoulder injury that has kept him out since October 6.

Assistant to Flick, Danny Röhl, told T-Online that two-thirds of the Germany squad picks for itself but for the remaining places, they’re looking at players who can play various roles within the squad.
