Bundesliga side Stuttgart have announced the departure of Mateo Klimowicz to Mexican club Atletico San Luis on loan with immediate effect. This comes after they prematurely ended his loan at Arminia Bielefeld.
Klimowicz has signed a one-year loan contract with Atletico San Luis until December 2023 after his loan at 2. Bundesliga side Arminia, which was due to run until June 2023, was terminated.
Speaking about Klimowicz’s departure, VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth stated that he’s “convinced” that the Argentine will acclimatise quickly and “will have the opportunity to take another important step in his sporting development.”
Klimowicz moved to Stuttgart from Argentina in 2019 but was unable to secure a regular place in the VfB midfield. Son of former Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund and Bochum forward Diego, Mateo Klimowicz has featured in 40 Bundesliga games for the Swabians.
It’s unclear whether Atletico San Luis have a purchase option for Klimowicz, but Kicker did report that there is an option to buy for €3m. VfB are expected to use money received in the January transfer window to fund a move for Wolfsburg’s Josuha Guilavogui.
