Official | Lee Buchanan joins Werder Bremen from Derby County

Werder Bremen have today announced the signing of 21-year-old English defender Lee Buchanan from Derby County on a free transfer.

“Werder Bremen are still a big name in Europe, even if the last few years haven’t been so successful. I’m looking forward to my time here, to meeting the fans and playing in the Bundesliga. It’s one of the best leagues in Europe,” said Buchanan.

The English youth international joined his new teammates yesterday at Bremen’s training camp in Zillertal where he underwent a medical examination before signing a long-term contract.

“We have followed Lee’s progress for a long time now. He’s a quick, tough-tackling full back with the experience of 70 games in the Championship. We’re delighted that we could convince him to join Werder,” added Clemens Fritz.

Buchanan played 75 games in all competitions for Derby County. The left-back will provide competition for Anthony Jung and Marco Friedl, the latter recently extended his contract.
