Mauro Icardi a potential candidate to compensate for Sébastien Haller at Borussia Dortmund

PSG forward Mauro Icardi is among four targets that are being discussed internally at Borussia Dortmund should they look to compensate the loss of Sébastien Haller, according to Sky Germany.

Haller was diagnosed with a testicular tumour last week but BVB bosses will wait for a full diagnosis before deciding whether they will enter the transfer market for a replacement.

Should Haller be sidelined for a lengthy period of time and a replacement needing to be signed, Borussia Dortmund have identified Icardi (PSG), Jhon Córdoba (Krasnodar), Krzysztof Piątek (Hertha Berlin) and Edin Džeko (Inter) as potential replacements for the French-Ivorian.

If they sign a replacement, BVB would like to sign a classic No. 9. Icardi has two-years remaining on his contract at PSG and finds himself behind Kylian Mbappé, Neymar and Lionel Messi in their attack – the Argentine forward has scored 23 and created seven in 64 games for PSG.

Should Borussia Dortmund pursue Córdoba, they would not need to negotiate with Krasnodar as player’s can make use of FIFA’s new ruling, allowing players to suspend their contracts at Ukrainian and Russian clubs because of the ongoing conflict. The Colombian also has Bundesliga experience having played at Mainz, Köln and Hertha Berlin, scoring 30 Bundesliga goals across the three teams.

Hertha are also open to selling Piątek whilst Džeko would be able to compensate for Haller in the short term. Luis Suarez was also offered to the Bundesliga club.
