Manchester City set to sign Manuel Akanji

Sky Germany are reporting that Manchester City have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Manuel Akanji (27) for a reported fee of around €20m including bonuses (€18m+€2m).

Per Sven Westerschulze, Akanji is already at the Premier League club ahead of undergoing a medical. The Switzerland international is expected to complete the move before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

In five competitive games this season, Akanji is yet to feature for BVB and doesn’t feature in the plans of Edin Terzić. As reported earlier this month, the Swiss central-defender deterred clubs due to his salary demands, reportedly around €13m. As reported by Sport1 on Tuesday, Akanji will earn an €11m salary at Manchester City, signing a five-year contract until 2027.

In the final year of his contract at BVB, not only does the sale of Akanji bring the Bundesliga side a substantial transfer fee, but BVB will also save around €6m, Akanji’s salary.
