Manchester City interested in RB Leipzig’s Joško Gvardiol

According to Sport Bild, Manchester City are interested in RB Leipzig defender Joško Gvardiol (21).

It’s been reported in Spanish media that City boss Pep Guardiola is considering the young Croatian international as a potential replacement for the outgoing Nathan Aké who is about to head to Chelsea.

Gvardiol is considered one of the best young talents in Europe and has impressed since his €18.8m move from Dynamo Zagreb in 2021. At the time of the signing, Leipzig’s now ex-sports director Markus Krösche claimed: “We have committed one of the greatest defensive talents in Europe.”

Last season, the central defender played 29 games for Leipzig and achieved the most amount of minutes than any other Bundesliga player under the age of 21. Gvardiol, or Little Pep as he’s known, won the DFB Pokal with Leipzig last season and played for Croatia at the European Championships.

With 165 successful passes in the Bundesliga last term, Gvardiol is one of the most reliable defenders currently playing in Germany’s top flight. It’s no wonder that Man City are interested in the 21-year-old.
