Speaking to Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah discussed his reasoning for signing a contract extension in September until 2025 after almost leaving the club that summer.
“I definitely wasn’t happy at the time,” said Tah. “I played 39 games that season but I felt like I was on the bench and didn’t play a major role at Bayer anymore. It’s important for me that I don’t feel like I’m stagnating.
“Above all, we had talks with Sporting Director Simon Rolfes and the new head coach Gerardo Seoane. It was clear the ambitions that Simon represented and the coach made it clear he would expect a lot from me, and that I should take on a lot of responsibility.”
Tah has returned to the Germany setup and has played 23 Bundesliga games under Seoane this season, missing just one league game and becoming an important member of the squad.
