Hansi Flick on Germany’s World Cup draw: “It won’t be an easy task, but we have big plans.”

Speaking to the DFB after Germany’s 2022 World Cup draw that has put them against Spain, Japan and Costa Rica or New Zealand, head coach Hansi Flick discussed his thoughts on the group.

“It won’t be an easy task, but we have big plans for the tournament,” said Flick. “In a draw you have no other choice anyway. We have to take what comes. It’s an exciting, interesting group for all of us.

“Japan is a team that is always there. They have a lot of players who play in the Bundesliga, so they are of high quality. We actually wanted to play a friendly against Japan, but of course that can’t happen now.

“Costa Rica was our opening game in 2006, so we have fond memories of that. All teams have evolved and have something special. We just have to see that we prevail.”
