FC Köln open to bringing in a striker in January

Speaking during an interview with Kölnische Rundschau, FC Köln sporting director Christian Keller is open to bringing in a new striker during the January transfer window. Despite a strong start to the season, the Billy Goats head into the early winter break without a win in five Bundesliga matches and out of European competition.

Having lost Anthony Modeste to Borussia Dortmund at the start of the campaign, Köln have had to put their faith in prospects such as Steffen Tigges. With such a bad run of form, it’s no wonder that head coach Steffen Baumgart and Keller are willing to browse the market for a more experienced forward who can help them in the second part of the season.

During the interview, Keller said: “Another striker would certainly do us good, but the winter transfer window is often not very fruitful.”

One possible solution could be in the form of a short-term loan. However, the idea of a loan deal is out of the question for the sporting director. Keller explains: “I’m not a friend of loans in the winter transfer window.”
