FC Augsburg on the verge of signing Arne Engels from Club Brugge

FC Augsburg are on the verge of signing Arne Engels from Belgium side Club Brugge, according to Augsburger Allgemeine.

The 19-year-old winger made his breakthrough this season with Club Brugge’s academy team Club NXT in the second division. In 15 appearances, Engels has scored twice and provided six assists for his side. The youngster has also featured a handful of times for Club Brugge U19s in the Champions Youth League where he also provided two assists.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Club Brugge look likely to sell the winger instead of seeing him go on a free transfer.

It will be a timely signing for Augsburg who are currently light in a few positions. André Hahn will be out for a long period of time with cartilage damage, whilst Noah Sarenren Bazee is nursing a cruciate ligament tear. Regular left winger Rubén Vargas has also been forced to help out on the right-hand side for the time being.

Engels could come into the first team straight away and provide extra cover for the team.
