Ellyes Skhiri an option for Borussia Dortmund

FC Köln and Tunisia midfielder Ellyes Skhiri is an option for Borussia Dortmund, according to Express. It’s unlikely that the 27-year-old will sign an extension beyond 2023 and so would be available on a free transfer in the summer, which has alerted several European clubs.

Speaking to the regional outlet, Köln head coach Steffen Baumgart states that Skhiri will likely seek a new challenge and has a clear sporting plan in mind, which he can’t achieve at the RheinEnergieStadion, but stated that the door will always remain open for the Tunisian, who joined in 2019.

Borussia Dortmund have already signed Salih Özcan and Anthony Modeste from FC Köln this season and with an inability to compete financially, Skhiri, who won’t be short on offers, is expected to leave.

Since joining from Montpellier in 2019 for a reported €6m, Skhiri has played 115 games across all competitions and has cemented himself as an integral player in central-midfield. He also represented Tunisia at the World Cup and was key in their 1-0 win over France in Group D.
