According to Sport1, negotiations will begin in January between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund over Ansgar Knauff, with Frankfurt wanting to keep the 20-year-old past the expiry of his loan.
Speaking to Frankfurter Rundschau, SGE sporting director Markus Krösche said: “With Ansgar we have said that we will try to keep him.” Edin Terzic also expressed Dortmund’s view on the winger in October: “The clear plan is that he will return to us in the summer.”
The outcome of this will ultimately come down to what Knauff wants to do, as he currently plays a key role at Frankfurt. If Knauff prefers to stay it is in Frankfurt’s interest as his contract at Dortmund expires in the summer of 2024. Frankfurter Rundschau report that it would cost around €8m to keep Knauff in Frankfurt.
Since joining on loan from Dortmund, Knauff has scored four goals in 34 appearances for Frankfurt with two of those goals coming in their games against Barcelona and West Ham en route to their Europa League triumph last season.
