Christoph Kramer nearing Borussia Mönchengladbach contract extension

Speaking exclusively to Sky Germany, Christoph Kramer has revealed that he is about to sign a contract extension with Borussia Mönchengladbach. Sporting director Roland Virkus also recently confirmed talks with the midfielder.

“There were very good conversations,” said Kramer. “It’s on the home stretch.” The 31-year-old is currently in the final year of his contract but after missing a large chunk of last season with a hamstring injury and then being unable to break back into the squad, has become an important player under Daniel Farke this season.

Kramer has already played more minutes after 11 games than the whole 2021/22 season and has taken on a new role in Farke’s system, playing further forward than we’re used to seeing. Reportedly on Hansi Flick’s provisional World Cup squad list, Kramer played down being nominated for the final squad.

“Unfortunately I’m sure that it won’t be enough, which I think is a total shame but out of sheer realism, I don’t think so,” said Kramer.
