Borussia Dortmund without Niklas Süle for Bayer Leverkusen game

As reported by Sky Germany, Borussia Dortmund will be without central-defender Niklas Süle for their opening game against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday 6.

Süle started BVB’s DFB Pokal game against 1860 Munich on Friday night but was substituted at half-time. Per the report, the 26-year-old suffered a muscular injury and was replaced by Mats Hummels.

Speaking after the game, Edin Terzić said: “Niklas felt something on his thigh. That’s the good thing, we don’t have to take any more risks, we were able to bring Mats on.”

Partnering fellow summer arrival Nico Schlotterbeck in defence, there’s no time frame on Süle’s return but will miss Dortmund’s Bundesliga game against B04. Unless Hummels gets injured, the 33-year-old will start alongside Schlotterbeck in central-defence.

Dortmund are through to the next round of the DFB Pokal after beating 1860 Munich 3-0 on Friday. Donyell Malen opened the scoring inside eight minutes before Jude Bellingham doubled BVB’s lead. Karim Adeyemi scored on his competitive debut after 35 minutes.
