Borussia Dortmund sack head coach Marco Rose

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the departure of head coach Marco Rose with immediate effect.

The 45-year-old coach guided Dortmund to second in the league but failed to really challenge Bayern Munich for the title.

BVB also had a poor season in terms of cup competitions after being knocked out rather early in the Champions League, Europa League, and DFB Pokal.

The club’s managing director released a statement saying: “The day was not an easy one for all of us, as we have all held each other in high regard and continue to do so. After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we were forced to conclude that we did not achieve the maximum possible in many areas.”

Rose also had his say as he explained: “Despite a difficult season with many uncertainties, I was convinced of our path. During our conversation I got the impression that the 100% conviction of all those responsible is no longer there. Ultimately, we therefore decided together to end the cooperation.”

Dortmund will hold talks in the coming days as to who will take over as head coach.
