Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke called Hugo Ekitike an ‘exciting’ player

Speaking to Süddeutsche Zeitung, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has called their possible transfer for Stade de Reims striker Hugo Ekitike as “courageous.”

The 19-year-old has long been considered to succeed Erling Haaland who earlier this week announced his move to Manchester City. Watzke described the prospect as an “exciting player” and that the transfer would be a “courageous” one.

In recent weeks, the price tag for the France U21 international, who is under contract until 2024, has ranged from €15m to €35m.

The tall centre forward has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 25 competitive matches this season for Reims.

If BVB are to secure the signing of Ekitike, he would be bolstering the frontline along with recent recruit Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg.
