Bayern Munich considering Alexander Nübel return

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are now seriously considering bringing back Alexander Nübel from his loan at Monaco.

Bayern are looking to find solutions following the announcement that club captain and number one goalkeeper Manuel Neuer broke his leg during a skiing tour on Friday. The experienced goalkeeper has played 12 out of 15 Bundesliga games but will miss the remainder of the season.

The club’s current backup goalkeeper Sven Ulreich (34) has filled in for a few games already this season when Neuer was briefly out of action. However, it appears that Bayern aren’t willing to have him as number one and bring forward a youth goalkeeper as backup.

Alexander Nübel has long waited for a chance to become Bayern’s number one but has always played second-fiddle to the experienced Neuer. Since 2021, the now 26-year-old has been on loan to Monaco awaiting his opportunity. Speaking in August this year, Nübel said: “If Manuel is still there, I think it won’t work anymore.”

Should Bayern wish to bring back Nübel, they would first have to come to a financial agreement with Monaco for recalling him earlier than anticipated. With trophies on the line, Bayern may compensate Monaco handsomely to bring back someone they consider a successor to Manuel Neuer.
