Bayer Leverkusen’s Joel Pohjanpalo to undergo Venezia medical

Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen will receive a reported €3.2 million (guaranteed €2.5m) including bonuses from Venezia for Joel Pohjanpalo who is expected to join the Italian side, according to Bild.

The 27-year-old has one-year remaining on his current Bayer Leverkusen deal and is behind Patrik Schick and Sardar Azmoun in Gerardo Seoane’s plans. Adam Hlozek can also operate centrally.

Pohjanpalo with sign at least a three-year contract with Venezia after spending last season on loan at Caykur Rizespor – the Finnish forward scored 16 and created one in 33 games.

Signed from HJK Helsinki in 2014, Pohjanpalo has spent time on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Union Berlin and Caykur Rizespor. During his time at Bayer Leverkusen, Pohjanpalo has played just 28 games across all competitions, scoring eight goals.

The Finn is expected to complete a medical check with Venezia, who were relegated from the Serie A, in the coming days. The Italian side fought off interest from FC Köln.

Following injuries to Amine Adli and Karim Bellarabi, expect Bayer Leverkusen to be busy as we enter the final two weeks of the transfer market.
