Anthony Modeste future unclear at FC Köln: “I only have one career”

According to Bild, Anthony Modeste is unclear if he has a future with FC Köln.

The 34-year-old striker scored 20 Bundesliga goals last season as he guided his side to European football.

However, with one year remaining on his contract, Modeste is unclear what his future holds when it comes to playing for the Billy Goats.

Speaking to French television back in February, Modeste had hoped for a contract extension and clarity on surrounding his future: “The club knows what to do. In the end I need a bit of security.”

However, according to sporting director Christian Keller, the club are currently unable to extend the striker’s contract due to high debt: “We are currently not able to extend it.”

Modeste has been honest about his situation and admits he will have to consider a move if a club were interested in signing him.

He told reporters: “I’m always honest and have a clear line. If something comes up, I have to talk to the club about it. But I don’t think that will be a problem because I think that the top earners have to go slowly. I’m 34 years old. If I get the chance to get another contract somewhere for two or three years, I’ll have to talk to the club.”
