Valencia have entered into discussions with the entourage of 27-year-old Schalke midfielder Omar Mascarell, according to Sky Germany.
However, the Spanish side are yet to open negotiations with Schalke but are expected to do so in the coming days. Per the report, the Bundesliga side would be open to selling the Spaniard to raise funds for reinforcements this transfer window.
Speaking after Schalke’s 4-0 win over Hoffenheim on Saturday, head coach Christian Gross hinted that January arrival Sead Kolašinac could keep the captain’s armband, deputising for both Mascarell and Benjamin Stambouli during their absence.
Mascarell has missed just two Bundesliga games for Schalke this season but if Schalke receive between the reported €7m – €10m, S04 would be able to purchase Kolašinac on a permanent basis.
The Spaniard has played 59 games in all competitions since joining the Royal Blues from Real Madrid in 2018 for €10m after an impressive loan spell at fellow Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.
