Stefan Kuntz on Youssoufa Moukoko: “We think his participation will help both the team & his own development.”

Naming his 23-man squad for the upcoming European U21 Championship in Hungary and Slovenia, head coach Stefan Kuntz discussed new faces and the inclusion of 16-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward Youssoufa Moukoko.

“In Youssoufa, we have an extraordinary talent in Germany, who we want to nurture with caution and accordingly to his performances. After close discussions with Borussia Dortmund, we decided to call him up because we think his participation will help both the team and his own development,” explained Kuntz.

Malick Thiaw (Schalke), Anton Stach (Greuther Fürth), Mateo Klimowicz (Stuttgart) and Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund) will debut for the Germany U21s.

“Since we have no preparation, the boys need to be match ready from the off,” said Kuntz. “In that sense, we have opted for two players in Malick Thiaw and Mateo Klimowicz who have featured regularly in the Bundesliga of late.

“Anton Stach has been performing extremely well in the 2. Bundesliga and is a very versatile player.”
