Stefan Baumgart on Schalke: “We’ll see if there’s talks.”

According to Kicker, SC Paderborn 07 head coach Stefan Baumgart, former Darmstadt head coach Dimitrios Grammozis and Peter Neururer are among the candidates to replace Christian Gross as Schalke head coach.

At the moment, there are no talks between Schalke and Baumgart, who has a contract with Paderborn until the end of the season: “There is no contact with Schalke. We’ll see if there’s talks,” he told Sport1.

Baumgart emphasised that he would only hold contract talks from March 15 and that Paderborn would be his “first point of contact.”

Gross and his assistant Rainer Widmayer, sporting director Jochen Schneider, team coordinator Sascha Riether & fitness coach Werner Leuthard were all relieved of their duties with immediate effect following their defeat at Stuttgart on Saturday.

Schalke currently find themselves rock bottom of the Bundesliga with nine points from 23 games and are nine points adrift of Arminia Bielefeld, who occupy the relegation play-off spot with 11 games remaining.
