Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have announced the signing of 20-year-old Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Celtic on a 4.5-year contract until 2025.

According to Kicker, the Scottish side will receive a fee up to €13.5 million including bonuses whilst Manchester City will reportedly receive 30% of that fee.

“In Jeremie Frimpong we have a signed a highly capable player and have once again achieved a forward-looking transfer for Bayer,” said sporting director Simon Rolfes.

“He is technically strong and is extremely fast. In the past year and a half Jeremie was able to prove himself at a top club in the physically demanding Scottish league and in the European cup.”

The Dutchman has played 30 games in all competitions for Celtic this season, scoring one and creating five from right-back. Frimpong will provide competition for compatriot Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Lars Bender, who will retire at the end of the season.

“They [Bayer Leverkusen] showed how ambitious they are internationally,” said Frimpong.
