Max Arnold: “You have to be ready and we weren’t.”

Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold has criticised the performance of his team after the Bundesliga side were defeated 3-1 by Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

“You can’t start the third game of the English week like that. We slept completely. There is no explanation for it,” Arnold told Sky Germany. “You have to be ready and we weren’t in the first seven minutes.”

When asked whether additional European fixtures are the problem, the midfielder responded: “We want to play internationally, we laid the foundation for it last season. That shouldn’t be an excuse.”

Wolfsburg went 2-0 down side seven minutes with goals from Breel Embolo and Jonas Hofmann. Lucas Waldschmidt pulled a goal back for Wolfsburg but 18-year-old American defender added a third for Gladbach in stoppage time.
