Matthias Ginter to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach

On Tuesday evening, Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter confirmed that he will not extend his contract at the Bundesliga club which expires in the summer.

“After much deliberation, I decided not to extend my contract, which was due to expire in the summer,” Ginter posted on Instagram. “After five great years at Borussia Mönchengladbach, it’s very difficult for me to take this step but I have decided to take another path in my career for my personal and professional development.”

According to Kicker, there had been reports that Ginter could leave in the January transfer window but the Germany international has indicated that he will remain until the summer.

Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said earlier in the month that he would like clarity from those with expiring contracts. Ginter has now outlined his intentions but Denis Zakaria is another player who has an expiring deal.
